I Can't Change

I am sure you have heard of the famous "Thrift Shop" song, but have you listened to any of Macklemore's other songs?  They are more than just words set to a tune. There is purpose behind his words. His articulation with his points struck my heart.

Just listen to the lyrics.

Now, I am going to get all religious on you.

Don't judge. Just listen.

We all have our questions. Each struggling with what we cannot see.

This has always been one of mine.

For some, it seemed to never have been a decision. For some, it is. I agree. And I think you can always see the truth. Some automatically condemn them to Hell while I choose acceptance. In the end we all stand in judgement for our "sins".

But I find that this "sin" seems to be the most controversial while at the same time the most innocent. This isn't a new found thing. It has gone on for centuries. It existed in history, it exists now, and it will continue to exist.

The controversy starts with the intentions behind the emotions. While some seem to be exploring, others have been that way since birth. You can tell. We all can tell. It is a sad existence that they endure fighting the urges that feel natural so they don't face the ridicule from others. Societies have turned their backs on them causing them to create a culture that has lashed out against Christians. Against the "ones" that are called for so much more than what they give. Unfortunately, the Christians have created it themselves. I believe we are to hold one another accountable for our actions (to some extent) but this isn't just a bad decision. This is who they are.

Call it what you will, but Christians need to learn....

Hatred stirs up disputes, but love covers all offenses.
Proverbs 10:12

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Peter 4:8

How true is this? Imagine if we all lived by these scriptures how much better our lives would be.

I really think that Christians should not be judgmental. But every person is entitled to their own opinions. When do opinions become judgements? Can a judgement be misinterpreted when it is only an opinion?

People will live their lives how they choose, regardless of how I tell them to or not (not that I would tell someone, besides my own offspring, how to live their life)

I don't think anyone should walk up to someone and say "YOU ARE WRONG" instead, get to know people. be their friend. live YOUR life--and let your life impact them as their life impacts you. And people can totally be friends with others of different believes, or religions.

My best friend is an atheist. I am a christian. We talk about religion, but we don't bombard each other with it. The discussion is light.

When it all comes down to it, you have to remember that Christians are not perfect. No human is.

I really like this post. Thank you for sharing.

Couldn't agree more! This has been on my heart for quite some time, and when I heard this song, I knew I had to write about it.
