the flower and the seed
"oh heart, if one should say to you that the soul perishes like the body, answer that the flower withers, but the seed remains."
one day all of our bodies will return to the dust of the earth, but what is left will be the impact we made. we will be remembered for who we were and what we stood for. the memories that others will carry of us will be the impression we imparted on them, whether good or bad. i stress to my children to make that impact a positive one. are we going to have our rough moments in life? certainly. we are human. but learn from those, admit to your mistakes, and make the changes necessary to make it right by those you have hurt or offended.
my grammal's marriage advice to me was to be gentle with one another. this is true in marriage but also with others. we forget that people are fragile. they are easily broken, but not easily mended. our culture places more precedence on the flower instead of the seed. we focus on the outward beauty instead of the internal being. but in order to prevent our culture from planting more bad seeds, we have to change ourselves.
we need to consider the legacy we wish to leave, and hopefully it will become one of justice, forgiveness, peace, understanding, and love. make this life worth living.
